He has been in practice as an independent consultant in surgical oncology (cancer surgery) since 2007.

His core specialty and area of interest is Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Cancer Surgery. He is equally adept in Head & Neck (Oral) Cancers, Gynaecological and Breast Cancers.

He completed his Masters in Surgery from Tata Memorial Hospital (the leading Cancer Institute in India) in 1997, followed by residency programme in surgical oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital.

He thereafter worked in Lilavati Hospital in Gastrointestinal (GI) and Hepatobiliary (HPB) cancer surgery and completed his fellowship in this specialty.

He has also visited the University Hospital, Nagoya, Japan for Fellowship in Gastrointestinal (GI) and Hepatobiliary (HPB) cancer surgery. He expanded his skills and worked on joint research project with the faculty from the University Hospital, Nagoya, Japan.

He later visited the UK and secured membership to Medical Council in UK (the GMC) and worked in major hospitals in the UK for over 3 years in Gastrointestinal Cancer and Breast surgery. The experience he gained in the UK was invaluable, and helped him master complex surgical problems.

Dr Mullerpatan returned to India in 2007 and since, has been performing major cancer surgeries successfully. He has also been an ex faculty in surgical oncology at the MGM Hospital, Kamothe, Navi Mumbai. This is a teaching hospital where he worked as Assistant Professor for 5 years.
